State Of Origin

Glasgow Sharks State Of Origin 2019.

Taking the State of Origin concept from Australian sports Sharks members are split into three teams to compete in a series of three games to crown a winning state.

This is a slightly different version of games the club used to play named Post Code of Origin, where players were split by an East/West divide.

Sharks will now represent one of three state teams.

  • Victoria
  • New South Wales and ACT
  • Western Australia

The series taking place towards the end of the Sharks annual season an emphasis in place on friendly competiton to help wind down and celebrate the year that had passed.

What are the rules?

Our State Of Origin Rules follow normal AFL Europe guidelines on the field with a couple of amendments.

  • 1) As we emphasize a friendly competitive environment, unsportsmanlike conduct to other players, officials or spectators will not be tolerated and will result in any offending player being sin binned for 5 minutes on a first offence (Yellow Card) in a game and sent off for the remainder of the game on a second (Red Card).
  • 2) In a mixed gender game, female goals will count as 9 points.

 

What are the teams, how are they decided?

Victoria – VIC

Any Victorian born Aussie at the club is automatically assigned to the VIC side, any Shark who has a Victorian Father or Mother is also assigned here.

For all other players if you reside in the South Side of Glasgow you will be part of the Victorian side.

*For competition balance some players may be moved to one of the other teams.

Western Australia – WA

Any Western Australian born Aussie at the club is automatically assigned to the WA side, any Shark who has a WA Father or Mother is also assigned here.

For all other players if you reside anywhere outside of Glasgow you will be part of the WA side.

*For competition balance some players may be moved to one of the other teams.

New South Wales and ACT

Any NSW/ACT born Aussie at the club is automatically assigned to the NSW/ACT side, any Shark who has a NSW/ACT Father or Mother is also assigned here.

For all other players if you reside in the North Side of Glasgow you will be part of the NSW/ACT side.

*For competition balance some players may be moved to one of the other teams.

When are the State Games in 2019?

We are speaking with GHA Rugby Club presently and will confirm shortly however we are hoping for the following dates.

September 28th

October 12th

October 26th
